He Hears You

Have you ever felt like you weren’t valuable? It is absolutely natural to desire to be loved and valued. One of the ways the enemy tries to deceive humanity is by corrupting their view of themselves until they don’t see their own value. Self-destructive behaviors are almost always rooted, at least in part, in a misunderstanding of one’s own value. I have often heard (and it’s true) that the value of something is measured by the price someone will pay for it. If you ever doubt your own value, remember what the Father was willing to give for you. Remember what Jesus was willing to lay down for you. The Son of God was sent in love and chose to lay His life down because you are worth it.

This is a truth everyone has to learn to walk in. You will never walk in the peace, confidence, and authority God desires for you until you truly understand your value to Him. You will walk in dignity when you know how much God values you.

I recently mentioned a quote I’ve been contemplating for months. The quote was, “There is no greater dignity than knowing the voice of God.” The second part of the quote was, “Justice is the restoration of dignity.”

Dignity can be defined in multiple ways. I’ll list just a few:

It is the state, quality, or right of a person to be worthy of value and respect.

It is inherent worth that every person possesses simply by being human, deserving of respect and ethical treatment.

It is a sense of pride in oneself or self-respect.

In modern times, dignity is often used in political and societal discourses about human rights, and that is a conversation of its own. Rights are lost when they aren’t protected, and they aren’t protected when leaders value something more than the people. However, this week, I wasn’t thinking about dignity from a secular perspective, but a Biblical one.

God has made clear the worth of every human being because of the value He places on them. In the Old Testament, we see that He cared about those who would be considered the least important in society.

Psalm 68:5 says,
“The father of the fatherless and defender of widows is God in His holy habitation.”

God values all people regardless of the value society places on them. Jesus came to the Jewish people, but it was ultimately for the inclusion of all people. The story of Ruth is a picture of this, as well. She was a widow and a Moabite—an outsider in Jewish society. However, Ruth chose to yoke herself to her mother-in-law and the God of Israel and return to a foreign nation where she could have been ostracized. However, she was protected and provided for by a “redeemer,” Boaz, a man in her deceased husband’s family who had the right and responsibility to claim her if he chose. We then subtly read at the end of the story that Ruth’s son was the grandfather of King David. A Moabite widow was grafted into the very lineage of the Messiah. I don’t believe the story of Ruth is included in the Word of God because it’s a nice love story, but because God wanted us to see a picture of Jesus and His bride. When Ruth called on the God of Israel, He heard her. Her past didn’t matter because she chose Him.

You cannot find anywhere in the Bible that someone cried out to God that He did not hear. God waits to hear you cry out to Him in faith, according to His Word. One of the thematic promises of God’s Word is that He hears. Look at just a few scriptures about this truth:

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.” (2 Chronicles 7:14-15)

“Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24)

“Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.” (Psalm 66:16-19)

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear Him; He also hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalm 145:18-19)

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

“This is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.” (1 John 5:14-15)

This week, I can sum up what is on my heart very simply: He hears you. There is no greater dignity than knowing you know the voice of God and that He knows your voice. You can have a personal, intimate relationship with the God of heaven. You can never devalue yourself or walk in insecurity and inferiority if you understand that truth. You have the ear of heaven, and you don’t have to try to be heard by anyone else. God will make a way for you to be heard by the right people on earth if you prioritize that He hears you from heaven. You will walk in dignity when you know you have the eyes and ears of the King of kings. Sin is the only thing that can separate us from Him, but when we repent, He is faithful to cleanse us, help us, and save us (1 John 1:9)! Don’t ever doubt your value or see yourself as a victim. You have access to the greatest authority in every room, at any time! He loves you. You’re His child. He hears when you call out to Him. Pour out your heart to Him and see Him move on your behalf.

I encourage you to make the following declaration I learned from my Pastor:

I’m not a victim; I’m a victor!

I’m not an orphan; I’m His child!

I’m not conquered; I’m more than a conqueror!

You are valuable because you’re created in the image of God and bought with the highest price. You can walk in humble dignity and authority, because the blood of Jesus has torn every dividing wall between you and heaven. You can come into the throne room of the King even now and confidently declare, “He hears me!”
